Pigmentation and dark spots develop when melanin collects unevenly in the epidermis. Spa Infinima offers three non-invasive pigmentation treatments in Sainte-Foy: photofacial (IPL), chemical peel and microneedling. Each one targets a different type of pigmented spot and a different skin type. The right treatment is chosen at consultation with an esthetician. Results vary from person to person.

Spa Infinima offers three non-invasive aesthetic treatments targeting the appearance of pigmented spots. The choice is made at consultation, based on your skin type, the nature of the spots (lentigines, melasma or post-inflammatory marks) and the condition of your skin. Each treatment acts on pigment through a different mechanism.
Intense pulsed light is absorbed by the melanin concentrated in the spot. This treatment targets solar lentigines on the face, hands and chest.
. It may reduce the appearance of dark spots and aims to even out skin tone. IPL is suited to light and medium skin types. Intense pulsed light is not a laser. A laser emits a single wavelength; IPL emits a broad light spectrum, filtered according to the target. For pigmented spots on the face, IPL covers a wider surface per session. Spa Infinima uses IPL, not a laser, for pigmentation. Laser technology at the spa is used for hair, not for pigmentation. If you are comparing laser treatment for pigmentation against IPL, that difference is worth raising at consultation.
A chemical peel for hyperpigmentation exfoliates the superficial layers of the epidermis and supports cellular turnover. By removing surface cells loaded with melanin, the peel aims to lighten the appearance of pigmented spots, smooth skin texture and restore radiance.
Microneedling stimulates collagen production through controlled micro-perforations. This treatment targets post-inflammatory marks left by acne, where both skin texture and pigment are involved. It can be combined with radiofrequency to act more deeply in the dermis.
The face, hands and chest do not show the same pigmented spots and do not respond the same way. The area influences the choice of treatment as much as skin type does.
The face carries the widest variety of pigmented spots: solar lentigines on the cheekbones and forehead, melasma of hormonal origin, post-inflammatory marks left by acne. Because facial skin is thinner and more exposed, skin type and the exact nature of the spots determine which treatment is selected. Melasma in particular can return.
On the hands and chest, solar lentigines dominate: these are age spots linked to cumulative sun exposure. The skin there is thinner, cellular turnover is slower, and these areas may require more sessions than the face. The chest often combines pigmented spots with a change in texture. Results vary from person to person.
Our estheticians assess your skin type, the nature of your spots and your history before recommending a pigmentation treatment.
Book a consultationMelanin is the natural pigment produced by melanocytes, which sit in the epidermis. When those cells work unevenly, it gathers in localized clusters. The result is visible on the surface: an area darker than the surrounding skin, flat, with irregular edges.
These areas go by several names depending on their origin — sun spots, age spots, hyperpigmentation. The underlying mechanism stays the same: excess melanin in a specific area of the skin, producing an uneven skin tone. Pigmentation ranks among the most common skin concerns we see.
Not all pigmented spots are alike, and the origin determines the appropriate treatment.
This distinction matters. Melasma in particular responds differently from lentigines and calls for a cautious approach. Contraindications are reviewed at consultation.
UV rays stimulate melanin production. This is the skin's defense mechanism: pigment absorbs solar radiation to protect the cells. Repeated over years, this sun exposure disrupts the melanocytes, which keep producing melanin even without sun. This photoaging of the skin is the leading cause of solar lentigines and age spots.
Pregnancy, oral contraceptives and menopause alter melanocyte activity. The resulting melasma, sometimes called the mask of pregnancy, appears symmetrically on the face, often across the forehead and cheeks. This type of pigmented spot is stubborn and can return after a treatment.
Over time, cellular turnover slows and pigment clears less efficiently from the epidermis. In parallel, every skin lesion can leave a pigmented mark. A pimple, a scratch or an irritation is enough to trigger one. Some skin, richer in melanin, is naturally more prone to this: genetic predisposition plays a real role in the appearance of pigmented spots.
Not all skin responds the same way to pigmentation treatments. Recent sun exposure, a tan, pregnancy or photosensitizing medication may be contraindications. Skin type directly influences the choice of treatment. These points are reviewed systematically at consultation.
A dark spot is not always benign. If a spot changes shape, color or size, if it bleeds, itches or has asymmetric edges, consult a physician before considering any aesthetic treatment. A pigmented lesion should be assessed medically before it is treated in a spa setting. We do not make diagnoses; when in doubt, we ask you to consult.
If you are searching for pigmentation treatment near me in Quebec City, Spa Infinima has two addresses in Sainte-Foy: Chemin Sainte-Foy and Place Ste-Foy. The spa was founded in May 2008. Every treatment begins with a skin assessment performed by our team of estheticians. Skin type, history and contraindications are reviewed before any pigmentation treatment session. ..
Preventing pigmented spots rests first on sunscreen. Apply SPF 30 or higher to the face, neck and hands every day, including winter: UVA rays pass through clouds and glass. Reapply every two hours during prolonged exposure. Without consistent sun protection, pigmented spots return regardless of the treatment received. Our sun protection range is available at the boutique.
Certain antioxidant actives — vitamin C, niacinamide, glycolic acid — are often built into a skincare routine targeting the appearance of skin tone. They complement the aesthetic treatments received in the spa. Avoid aggressive scrubs: they worsen skin inflammation and therefore pigmentation. Products for pigmented skin are available at the boutique. ..
Our estheticians will assess your skin type and the nature of your pigmentation spots, then guide you toward the appropriate treatment—photorejuvenation, chemical peel, or microneedling. A consultation is required before any pigmentation spot treatment.
