Brown spots accumulated over the summers, diffuse redness that lingers, an uneven complexion that has lost its natural glow: these signs of skin aging no longer require a heavy intervention to fade. Photorejuvenation by intense pulsed light offers a gentle, lasting answer to reveal younger-looking skin and a radiant complexion, without needles and without social downtime.
At Infinima, this photorejuvenation treatment is part of a complete range of medical-aesthetic treatments. Our photorejuvenation offering in Sainte-Foy combines cutting-edge technology and signature art of care, in the greater Quebec City area.
Book my consultationIPL photorejuvenation (Intense Pulsed Light) is an aesthetic treatment that uses broad-spectrum light pulses to correct skin imperfections at depth, while respecting the surface of the skin. Unlike a traditional laser that emits a single wavelength, pulsed light can target several concerns: pigmentation, vascularization, firmness.
Intense pulsed light penetrates the epidermis down to the dermis without damaging the surface. It is absorbed by two biological targets: melanin, the pigment responsible for brown spots, pigment spots and solar lentigines, and hemoglobin, contained in the dilated blood vessels behind diffuse redness and broken capillaries.
This selective absorption produces targeted heat that fragments the excess pigmentation so it diminishes. At the same time, the heat that spreads through the dermis stimulates the fibroblasts responsible for collagen production and elastin, helping to firm the skin from within.
The IPL treatment is non-invasive and safe: no incision, no needle, no recovery time. The session takes place at the clinic in about an hour, after a preliminary skin analysis that adapts the protocol to your phototype, your skin type and your concerns.
Its safety rests on the precise setting of the parameters by a trained medical-aesthetic specialist. Each session is adjusted according to the area treated, the skin colour and the extent of the targeted lesions, which makes the treatment both effective and well tolerated.
Also called a photofacial or facial IPL, this non-invasive skin rejuvenation progressively corrects skin imperfections and restores the skin's evenness. It works on the face, neck, décolleté and hands, areas marked by sun spots, diffuse redness and the first signs of skin aging. In concrete terms, a photorejuvenation protocol targets three results:
Pigment spots are the historic target of photorejuvenation. Age-related brown spots, solar lentigines, sun spots, pronounced freckles, mild post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation: IPL targets the excess melanin to fragment it and allow its progressive elimination. The result: a radiant complexion that is more even from the very first sessions.
After each session, the spots first appear darker for a few days, then fade as cell renewal occurs. For skin marked by sun damage, photorejuvenation represents a genuine gentle alternative to injections, as explained in our articles on gentle alternatives to injections.
Diffuse redness, mild to moderate rosacea, broken capillaries and small visible vessels respond particularly well to pulsed light, which targets the hemoglobin in the dilated blood vessels to make them gradually disappear, without irritation.
The result: a luminous complexion, visibly more even, and a soothed skin texture. Many people also notice a reduction in the feeling of heat in the face often associated with rosacea, along with a lasting fading of redness.
Beyond pigmentation and redness, IPL photorejuvenation improves the overall quality of the skin and the skin texture. The diffuse heat stimulates collagen production in the deep dermis, which translates into progressive firming, better elasticity and a smoothing of fine lines.
This is what sets IPL skin rejuvenation apart from a simple facial: the rejuvenating effect works at depth on the skin structure. This work complements our complementary body treatments for larger areas such as the décolleté, the back or the hands.
A photorejuvenation session at Infinima lasts about an hour for the full face, including consultation, preparation and post-treatment care.
It all begins with a skin analysis performed by one of our certified medical-aesthetic specialists, who assesses your phototype, identifies the lesions to be treated and checks for the absence of contraindications. Your specialist then sets the intensity, the pulse duration and the filters of the intense pulsed light platform, adjusting continuously according to your skin's reactivity.
After a deep cleansing, an aqueous, refreshing protective gel is applied, and eye shields protect your eyes. You feel short light pulses with a sensation of heat or slight tingling, without pain. Once the area is treated, the gel is removed and the skin soothed with a moisturizer and a mineral sunscreen.
A complete protocol includes 3 to 5 sessions spaced at least one month apart; an annual maintenance session is then enough to preserve the gains. Between sessions, daily sun protection and a vitamin C skincare routine, with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, support cell regeneration and extend the benefits of photorejuvenation.
Photorejuvenation suits a wide range of profiles, provided that a preliminary consultation confirms its suitability for your skin type.
The treatment effectively addresses:
Several concerns can be treated within a single protocol.
Before the first session, your specialist will check for the use of photosensitizing medications (antibiotics, isotretinoin, St. John's wort), recent sun exposure, and the use of self-tanners or tanning beds. A pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infections or tanned skin postpone the treatment. Phototypes V and VI, richer in melanin, are generally not recommended.
Where applicable, we direct you toward an alternative such as radiofrequency or microneedling.
Photorejuvenation has no age and no gender. Women and men both find a suitable answer in it, in a professional, judgment-free setting. Male clients often appreciate the discretion and precision of the IPL treatment.
An uneven complexion marked by pigment spots, diffuse redness that lingers despite at-home care, skin that calls for more firmness and natural glow: our photorejuvenation protocols address these concerns under one roof, in Sainte-Foy.
